26/9 The last So Tough! at Retro. Ellie Greenwich tribute and Slumberland Records special
As you've maybe heard by now, So Tough! So Cute! is moving to London. So this will be the last club night at Retro in Malmö, Sweden. Retro has from the start been a great supporter of everything we've done so many thanks to Jonathan and his wife and staff, Marcus, Oskar, StayAt hotel and everybody else who's put up with us.
We'll celebrate this with playing the greatest indie pop tunes from the last few years of doing You Can't Hide Your Love Forever and So Tough! So Cute!. "But don't you always do that?" I hear you say. Yes. Yes, we do. We're just that good of a club.
We'll also mark the passing of the magnificent Ellie Greenwich by playing our favourite Ellie penned songs. Ellie as you probably know, but let me just say it anyway, wrote some of the Greatest Pop Songs Ever. Be My Baby, Baby, I Love You, Then He Kissed Me, Da Doo Ron Ron, Not Too Young To Get Married, Leader of the Pack and River Deep, Mountain High. We'll be playing these and others and lift a glass of bubbly to her.
How on earth can we top this? Easy, by having a Slumberland Records special. For those of you who've somehow managed to miss what Slumberland records has put out this year we recommend that you check out the following bands: Brown Recluse, Sic Alps, The Champagne Socialists, Summer Cats, Liechtenstein, Cause Co-Motion!, Bricolage, Crystal Stilts, Sexy Kids and some band called The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. Apparently they're big with the kids. But that's not all. Since 1989 they've also released legendary bands such as Aislers Set, Black Tambourine, Rocketship, Boyracer, Stereolab, Honeybunch, Dear Nora, Velocity Girl, Go Sailor and our current crush Henry's Dress.
So please come and say goodbye and dance for a bit.

Apparently I who run the club, Daniel Novakovic, (What? There's only one of you? But you always say "we"? Shut up) have been nominated for Djungeltrummans DJ Of The Year award. We/I don't know how this happened since we/I can't beatmix records to save our/my lives/life (Look I'll just go with "we" from now on ok?). We are of course up for a challenge so you can vote here for me. Us. Remember kids! A vote for So Tough! is a vote for indiepop! UPDATE: You have to be on the Malmö version of the page. Just adjust it on the upper left side of the page
There is a small exhibition of all the ST!SC!-posters at the record store Musik & Konst on Spångatan 5 in Malmö. If there's a poster you'd like just ask the person behind the counter which one you'd like and if we have a spare of it's yours. You can always see all the posters either by scrolling down or more conveniently see them at www.danielnovakovic.com
We'll be playing a short set at Don't Die On My Doorstep on September 19 at På Besök on Nobelvägen. So please come by and see if we can't get a dance floor started. We'll be doing a vinyl only set so requests will be limited. Facebook event
And finally we have to mention one of the proudest moments we've had since we started with this "DJ"-business. We played on the Pastels/Tenniscoats and Veronica Falls gig at Bush Hall. A magnificent evening put on by Twee As Fuck. Veronica Falls really impressed us and we can't wait until the release something. And hopefully decide to release those Sexy Kids tracks that seem to be in limbo at the moment as well. Then the Pastels/Tenniscoats came on and it was magic. They started of with a dreamy instrumental and just stayed in this dreamy state for the rest of the show. We didn't really what to expect since we didn't get our pre-ordered copy of the album until after the show and hadn't listened to any of the song, but wow. This was so great. Highlight was of course Baby Honey which was a noisy eight minute beast of a song. Amazing. After the show we went a bit fanboy and the result is that photo with Gerry Love of Teenage Fanclub and Stephen Pastel. Stephen was also very kind to lend us his headphones.

So Tough! guest dj-set at Pastels/Tenniscoats/Veronica Falls at Twee As Fuck
We're ridiculously happy to say that tonight we'll be doing a short set at Twee As Fucks simply amazing night with the Pastels/Tenniscoats and Veronica Falls at Bush Hall in London. It's a dream come true. Ever since we read about Heavens Above! in the swedish magazine POP where they compared it to the best girl-group song ever (I Never Dreamed by the Cookies since you asked) we have been infatuated with the Pastels. So this is... I'm sorry I just don't know what else to say. It's the fucking PASTELS!
