Mixtape: Eating Ice Cream At Midnight With You

Records, we've got records! The mailbox lid barely has time to shut before the next bunch of cassettes and 7 inches drop down. Not LPs though. The LPs we have to pick up at the post office. Luckily we have a new mixtape to listen to whilst strolling down the sunny streets of London so we don't mind. And now you can too. (Listen to the mixtape we mean. We don't know if it's sunny where you are. Or if there are even streets.) As always, if you like a track buy it.

"Taking a walk in the sun is nice (providing there is sun. And streets) but is there anywhere we can hear these lovely songs on a dancefloor?". Nice of you to ask, because you can. We have three DJ-sets coming up in the next two weeks. April 3rd we're playing at Dance Magic Dance at The Old Blue Last with La La Vasquez, Veronica Falls and Girls Names. April 8th brings us Hunx And His Punks at Camp Basement with Upset The Rhythm and the 9th April it's time for another Baby Honey at the Buffalo Bar. This time with legendary Chocolate Barry on stage whilst celebrating the re-releases of the Blueboy records on él records with a, wait for it, él-records special!

So Tough! So Cute! First night in London on March 19th

We're really happy to announce the first So Tough! So Cute! night in London and we hope you will be able to come down and dance and have a great time with us.

After running monthly clubs in Sweden since 2007 and having graced dancefloors with mind blowing, sing-along, fists-in-the-sky guest dj-sets at London's own Baby Honey, How Does It Feel To Be Loved, Twee As F*ck and Popfest, we are here to put on a proper indie pop, post-punk, 'twee', diy and garage pop night where the focus is on dancing the night away and making out with someone you probably shouldn't make out with.

Whether it's Field Mice, the Fall, Crass, Belle & Sebastian, Orange Juice or Times New Viking, Fresh & Onlys, Hunx & His Punks, Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, PENS or Swedish gods bob hund and Broder Daniel we'll keep the dancefloor sweaty and full of love*

To help kick off our first night we've invited our favourite club UPSET THE RHYTHM who'll be putting on The Sticks to launch their new crashing and tumbling record as well as the amazing post-punky bands La La Vasquez and Human RACE.

So simple. Bands till around 11:30 and then So Tough! So Cute! will provide the dancing of your life.

*If you're new to So Tough! So Cute!, and we can see that there are some of you, yes you in the corner, you might want to click on mixtapes and playlists on the right to see what we're all about. Basically we started the night all those years ago to have a place to dance to the songs we sang along to and jump to in our bedrooms but then didn't get to hear when going to clubs. We really like early punk, labels like Rough Trade, Postcard, Sarah, Factory, early Creation and bands that took influence from that DIY meets Pop feeling. While we may geek over b-sides we always try to play dancable stuff as there's nothing that's makes us happier than smiles and eyes that say oh-my-god-did-they-really-play-that-song-I-always-wanted-to-hear-that-song-in-a-club.

What gets us going at the moment are bands like Black Tambourine, Ty Segall, Blueboy, The Pastels, Chain And The Gang, Camera Obscura, The Monochrome Set, The Fall, Belle And Sebastian, Heavenly, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, Twa Toots, The Shangri-Las, Orange Juice, Pooh Sticks, Only Ones, The Aislers Set, The Sea Urchins, Go-Betweens, Hunx & His Punx, Monks, Jacuzzi Boys, Aztec Camera, Dolly Mixture, Grafitti Island, Girls At Our Best!, My Favorite, The Field Mice, Mccarthy, Tullycraft, Hefner, Shop Assistants, New Order, Aphex Twin, Felt, PENS, The Cure, The Wolfhounds, Home Blitz, Razorcuts, Primal Scream, Veronica Falls, Wire, Trembling Blue Stars, Richard Hell, Fire Engines, The Modern Lovers, The Magnetic Fields, Mika Miko, The Wedding Present, Bubblegum Splash, The Bobbyteens, The Tough Alliance, Brighter, Free Loan Investments, The Flatmates, Kleenex, Fresh & Onlys, Dexy's Midnight Runners, The Bodines, Comet Gain, Biff Bang Pow!, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Huggy Bear, Mekons, Crystal Stilts, Camera Obscura, Josef K, June Brides, Thee Oh Sees, Saint Etienne, Broder Daniel, Bikini Kill, Hit Parade, Beat Happening, Another Sunny Day, Television Personalities, Buzzcocks and lots more

Loud noises at Bardens Boudoir

We went to the launch for the Paradise Vendors Inc / Italian Beach Babes compilation featuring So Tough! So Cute! favourites like La La Vasquez, Plug, Graffiti Island, Male Bonding and Spectrals. Lovely artwork by Jesse Spears and a damn fine selection of songs. It's limited to 500 copies so order it at the Paradise Vendors shop.

Brightons finest La La Vasquez was the first band we caught and they keep getting better and more impressive and makes us want to start a band with every show we see them at and with every chill Freya Vasquez shouting sends down our spines. We can't wait to hear their debut 7" which will be out in March and can be ordered at the Twin Grrl records shop.Oh, if you know the name of this track let me know.

After the Fair Oh's put a smile on everyones face with their bouncy and punky set it was the Cold Pumas turn. Dressed in a white, slightly revealing, t-shirt with black dots, an impressive mustasch and hair that would make Tintin jealous the drummer came on. Then two guitarists looking slightly lost. And then. And then scRABrrRrraaNNG!!!* The loudest and most fantastic song ever! We haven't heard anything like this since we saw Napalm Death at a tiny student union in Sweden in the nineties where the sound made the windows look like bubble wrap. The band looked slightly amazed themselves that it was so loud after the song and did some fiddling with the equipment. And then they did one of the best gigs we've ever seen. Which sounded even louder. Stuck somewhere between Kid Commando and Beach Boys they delivered a stunning live show and it was hard to tell who was more astounded with the gig. The crowd who stood their mouths wide open and pogoing and dancing or the band who gave each other surprised glances and looked like they were thinking 'Oh My Fucking God I don't know what we're doing but for the love of all that is holy keep doing it and oh shit we're so loud!'. Fantastic! We bought all the records they had with them and so should you do. No idea if they're as good on record as our record player is in limbo but this is a must see live band. Simply stunning. We suggest you go see them supporting (more likely stealing the show) Times New Viking at the 20th March. Buy their 'Jela'12" here.

Spectrals, whose fine Leave Me Be 7" on Captured Tracks last year you should keep filed next to your Creating singles, finished the night with a great set. Looking like they just stepped out of the Back To The Future film they transported us to warm autumn red nights by the ocean. Filled with reverb, 'turn it all the way up', the Spectrals were a happy surprise and a perfect come down and our favourite song of theirs was the slow Everly Brothers inspired 'Keep Your Magic Out My House'. So good.

An amazing night!
